Shall We Pray?
Lord, our hearts are really heavy this morning. We look at what we do in view of their eternal worth and significance. And we ask ourselves today, can we do better? We see how we valorize titles, offices, power, degrees, personal development; everything that puts us in that position of good success and relative excellence. But we seldom stop to ask, to what end? We are quick to forget that anything we glamorize here without eternal value is a castle of ruin. Everything that consequently excite only our self-worth is a defeat to the purpose for which Christ died for us.
Lord, help us to live with eternity in view.
Help us to realise that our acquired wealth and cars and titles and glitz end here. Help us not to forget that their true value is only gained when we use them for your kingdom. We want to heap our treasures in heaven where there is no destruction. For everything here on earth shall be salted with fire. Some of us are lone rangers; suspicious of relationships, hermit crabs who feel the good news must only be an exclusive personal testimony. We forget that the currency of eternity’s value is measured in terms of souls we have drawn to the Lord and been a blessing to.
And we shall hear you say on that day, ‘For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ For as far as you are concerned, it is what we do to the homeless and the needy and the prisoners and the hungry that matters; for whatever we do to the least of your brethren, we have done to you. This is what we stand the test of time. Help us to see that whatever we are, whoever we become, wherever we find ourselves are only platforms to draw men to you.
Let us resist the urge to see who we are or what we have as an end in themselves. Let us not be attached to the ephemeral. Let us value lives above gold, love above riches, men above manna. Stir us to reach men with the ministry of reconciliation and not be passive about evangelism. Till we all come to the fullness of Christ, being conformed to His image through the revelation of your word, by your Spirit.
In Jesus’ name….
